Number of operating credit organizations in Russia for six months increased by 16

The total number of credit organizations in Russia in January-August 2002 increased by 16 – from 1319 to 1 January until 1335 on 1 September. Including in August, the number of operating credit institutions has not changed. This is stated in the materials of the Central Bank.

The total number of branches operating Russia's credit institutions in January-August 2002 decreased by 90 – from 3433 to 3343, and in August rose by 3. The number of branches of Sberbank of Russia decreased over 8 months to 65 – from 1233 to 1168. In addition, still working 4 branches of Russia's banks abroad.

Total Bank of Russia as of 1 September 2002 there were 1,920 credit institutions, while on January 1, 2002 – 2001. Of the total number of credit organizations registered on September 1, 1872 were banks and 48 – non-bank credit organizations. In addition, 2 non-bank credit organizations registered with other bodies.

584 lending institutions have withdrawn or revoked license to conduct banking operations, but they are not excluded from the books of state registration.

General licenses on 1 September had 281 credit institution licensed to accept deposits of the population – 1208 of credit institutions licensed to deal in foreign currency – 833 credit institutions.

In Russia, September 1, act 27 credit institutions with 100% foreign participation and 11 credit institutions with more than a 50% foreign shares. In total there were 130 operating credit organizations with foreign participation in the authorized capital.

The total registered capital operating in Russia, credit institutions increased from 285.317 billion rubles as of 1 August to 286.261 billion rubles on 1 September.
